The Broward Pirates Lacrosse is beginning their fifth season. The last of the original Broward Pirates graduated at the end of last season. The program has come a long way.... From winning only one game in their first season to having winning seasons in 2007 and 2008, and only having lost one game in 2009.
Where do we go from here? We continue our mission of teaching this awesome game to boys that are motivated and committed to learn it, while having a heck of a lot of fun in the process. We strive not only to create good players but also good citizens. We teach and lead by example, and have very high expectations of our Pirates. We are always open to kids looking for challenge and fun.

Saturday's game against Palm Beach Gardens at Parkland started 30 minutes later than scheduled on what was a beautiful but hot day. It is hard on parents and coaches to have to wait for the start of a game, but it is far more difficult for the players. It is very important for the players to keep focused on their goal and the longer they have an unexpected delay the harder it is. Our Pirates this year though continue to impress us all by managing as a team to stay focused and on task.
Team play again ruled the afternoon Saturday against Palm Beach Gardens. Palm Beach Gardens without a doubt had the ability to dominate the game, but the 7th and 8th grade Pirates had other plans and controlled the game by winning most of the face offs and immediately putting pressure on the Palm Beach Gardens defense with fast transitions created by great passing and positioning. The palm Beach Gardens goal tenders did a good job of stopping a great number of shots on goal, but in the end enough made it to the back of the net giving the Pirates the 8 to 4 win.
One of the great things about the 2009 Broward Pirates team is the ability of most the players to score. Rarely is any one player "hot" every weekend, but there are always some others that step up turn on the heat and start racking up the goals. Saturday Giles and Garcia turned it on for a total of five, while Gonzales, Hopfinger and O'Byrne added coal to the fire by adding one each. The pressure on the goal was intense as ten different players put a total of twenty-nine shots on goal.
This week we begin to prepare for our last game on May 9th against Parkland again away at Parkland. It has not gone unnoticed by this coach that our shot to score percentage was very low this weekend. We will tune this up at practice and hopefully witness another great performance from our Pirates next game.
As usual thanks to our parents for the support!

We have decided to host a summer-long play for the following age groups:
:: U15 - Comprised primarily of 6th 7th and 8th graders that are under the age of 15.
:: U19 - Comprised primarily but not limited to high school players that are under the age of 19.
For more information or to register please visit the Summer Session Page.
Schedule: Our scheduled game against University School Saturday coming was canceled due to lack of enthusiasm and burnout on their team. Too bad since the boys were really looking forward to playing that game.
I have heard a wild rumor that we are playing Boca Friday. This is not true. I have yet to speak with Boca, and in any case I have a conflict. Unless you hear differently from me our next scheduled game is on May 2nd against Palm Beach Gardens (OR) at Parkland at 3:00p. This is going to be one of our most challenging games this year, so I ask now that all players plan on being available for this game. We the coaches really need to have options for tough games like these.
As usual thank you all for the continued support!
See you all at practice on Wednesday!
